We’re Stem Cell Vet, the UK’s only stand alone stem cell clinic dedicated to the treatment of joint related conditions in dogs.
Stem cell therapy is a powerful addition to conventional treatments for arthritis and other conditions, that may not be effective enough in limiting pain and improving mobility.
If your dog has a joint related condition, please get in touch so we can get started on your dog’s road to recovery.
Your dog doesn’t have to live with the pain and reduced mobility of arthritis, which can persist even with medication or surgery
Arthritis care for dogs has advanced a lot in recent years and excellent treatments are now available. In some ways the treatments for canine arthritis are better than those available for humans!
Stem cell therapy for dogs has been commercially available since 2004. Thousands of dogs have been successfully treated around the world. However, the technology has only more recently come to the UK.
These life-changing therapies represent a great leap forward in the treatment of arthritis and related conditions in dogs and we’re very excited to be at the forefront of this new technology.
Our driving mission is to help dogs lead happy and active lives
Stem Cell Vet is headed up by veterinary surgeon Dr Stewart Halperin BVMS MRCVS. Dr Halperin understands first hand how upsetting it can be to have a dog who is unwell. In fact it’s why he became a vet.
Stewart became a Vet because he never wanted anyone to hear the words he was told by his Vet, “There’s nothing more we can do”.
As a young boy his dog Benji became inactive. Despite seeing many vets, his family was told there was nothing more they could do for Benji. Stewart felt helpless and it was then that he decided to become a vet and dedicate his life to helping dogs live happier lives.
What we do
We carry out Stem Cell Therapy for dogs with arthritis and bone and tendon injuries. This includes hip dysplasia, degenerative joint disease, calcification, common degeneration and inflammation, as well as cruciate ligament damage. We also use Stem Cell Therapy to treat dogs with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
Stem cell therapy is a very useful addition to conventional treatments for arthritis and other conditions that may not be effective enough in limiting pain, improving mobility or increasing quality of life.
These treatments may include drugs, surgery, physiotherapy, laser therapy, hydrotherapy and acupuncture, and cartrophen injections. We find that in some cases, many of these treatment options may be limited for a particular animal. For example, some animals may not be able to take drug medications because of adverse reactions.
Before we see you, we will already have obtained a full clinical history from your own vet so that we are aware of all current treatments and problems. During an initial consultation each pet we see is assessed and an individual treatment plan is given, according to the type of condition, the severity, and your own preference of treatment options.
Why we do it
We believe that Stem Cell Therapy offers a safe and effective treatment for arthritic conditions in dogs and also IBD in dogs.
We follow in the footsteps of our colleagues in the US and Australia who have been using this therapy for pets since 2005, with great results, and we add to the body of evidence supporting the use of stem cells so that it becomes more widely available for both animal and human use.
Yes, we are vets and nurses, but we are animal lovers foremost and want to reduce the suffering experienced by animals with these conditions.
The majority of owners of dogs using adipose derived Stem Cell Therapy for arthritis report a marked improvement in mobility, a marked reduction in pain and a marked improvement in quality of life within 3 months of treatment, many within 3 weeks. A number of these animals can come off medication and this is a main aim of the treatment.
Stem Cell Therapy represents a great leap forward in the treatment of arthritis conditions and we are very excited to be at the forefront of this new technology.
